Three ways to learn English through music
You don't need any musical experience. We start from the very first note, and the English grows with the music.
Guitar
Learn your first chords and strumming patterns, and play a whole song from start to finish.
English you'll use: strings, frets, strum up and down, change chords, keep the beat
Singing
Breathe, warm up and sing in tune, using songs in English. It's the fastest way to better pronunciation.
English you'll use: breathe in, hold the note, lyrics, chorus, linking words together
How a lesson works
One hour, two halves, one language
The English half
Speaking, listening, vocabulary and grammar, adapted to your level and your interests. Often we work from a song you love, so the lyrics become the lesson.
The music half
Piano, guitar or singing, with every instruction in English. You hear the words from the first half again and use them straight away, which is how they stick.
This is CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning), the method Spanish schools use to teach subjects in English. It works because your focus is on the music, not the grammar. New words stick because you use them straight away, you get used to following English in real time, and you speak with less pressure. You also get more from every hour: a new skill and a new language at once.

About me
Hi, I'm Ryan
I'm a musician and an English teacher from the United States, living in Cabañal. I studied music at university, and since then I've released my own songs, taught music and theater to children, and spent a school year as an English language assistant in a Spanish public school, where I brought music into the classroom.
I believe learning grows from curiosity, love and partnership. Nobody learns well when they're forced to. When you're learning a song you actually care about, the English comes much more easily.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to speak English already?
No. Students come at every level, including complete beginners. I adapt the English to you, and I can explain in Spanish when needed.
I've never played an instrument. Is that OK?
Yes, that's exactly who these lessons are for. We start from the very beginning.
Do I need my own instrument?
Not for lessons at my home office, where I have instruments you can use. For lessons at your home, you'll need your own. I recommend having a guitar, piano or keyboard at home to practice on between lessons, and if you play guitar, bring yours to class when you can.
Can I take music lessons without the English part?
Music lessons are only offered as part of Music through English. If you only want English, those lessons are €25 per hour.
Are the lessons good for children?
Yes. I've taught music to elementary school children and worked in Spanish and American schools. I teach children, teenagers and adults.
